Le Comte de Monte-Cristo Reading notes

A particularly classic dialogue between Dontes and the elder Faria, excerpted and read many times over again:

Segment I

Dontice, meanwhile, seemed to be measuring the rope ladder, but his mind was on something else. He thought that the old man before him was so clever, so sharp, and so profound, that he might be able to solve the mystery of his misfortune, which he himself had never seen.

“What are you thinking?” “Asked the elder, smiling, when he saw that Dontais was silent in thought, and expecting another exclamation of admiration.

“At first I thought that you must have racked your brains to do all that you set out to do, and how much you could do if you were a free man outside the walls.”

“Maybe nothing. My over-abundance of brain power would evaporate for nothing, and adversity would tap into the mysterious treasures of human wisdom. In order to make gunpowder explode, I must increase the pressure. Life behind bars allows me to gather my scattered talents into a single point. In a narrow space, various abilities collide with each other.

You know, clouds meet and make electricity, and electricity makes twinkle, twinkle light.”

“No, I don’t understand that.” Dontice, frustrated by his ignorance, said, “Some of what you say makes no sense to me. You are blessed to be so learned.”

The elder smiled.

“Le Comte de Monte-Cristo” The elder of Rifaria said that great things are done by the pressure of adversity. Only in adversity people will inspire endless explosive power.

Segment two

These days, time can not say fast, but at least bearable. Faria’s hand and leg had not recovered, as we have said, but his mind had recovered so clearly that, in addition to the moral lessons we have already detailed, he taught the young fellow how to be a patient and noble prisoner, and how to find something to do in idleness. In Faria they did not want to see themselves growing old, in Tang Tai Shan they did not want to recall the past, which was almost dead, and which was now buried in the depths of his memory, and which was only like a distant lamp in the night where he knew not where. Time flies, as if life had not been disturbed by bad luck, but flowed on mechanically and quietly under God’s watchful eye.

Le Comte de Monte-Cristo(The Count of Monte Cristo) Elder Faria, who is dying, tries his best to educate Dontice, hoping that Dontice will become a patient and noble man. I hope he can find something to do from ordinary life instead of doing nothing. However, Dontice’s revenge has slowly begun to unfold.

Segment three

Mental trauma has its special, it can disappear, but never heal, and always in pain, a touch it, will bleed, this trauma is always very sensitive, always open, blood forever in the heart.

Truly open-minded people, if the enemy suffered more misfortune than their revenge, will start to hide the heart.

Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, Chapter 86 The Trial

Life must have a lesson in resistance.

The upper part has been finished, but the lower part of the intermittent read for a long time, there are more than three hundred pages did not finish. The main reason is probably that I personally think the best part is the top part.

The upper part is Dumas tells the story of an upright, selfless, pure and kind young man Dontais suffering from various tests of fate, especially in the dark prison how to use the spirit of self-rescue to survive.

My favorite scene is Dontice and Faria elder living next door to each other in prison digging tunnels and learning languages, noble etiquette, chemical medicine, drug distribution, geography and navigation.

The elder Faria was the teacher of Dantes’ life, and this teacher spent his time in the prison as precious as gold, and he was able to walk in the prison every day with light air and light wind.

By the time they met in the hole in the wall, the elder Faria had written a great history.

The elder, with his God-like wisdom, made all kinds of tools out of the simplest objects in the prison. This is also very attractive to me. This let me know: as long as not despair, good observation and thinking, must be able to create a miracle of life. A lot of people in our life feel that they are unfortunate people, in fact, life itself is meaningless, only with sufficient strength, exhausted the heart of the fate of the uncompromising fight to the end, there will be a bright and bright moment to come. Life is for fighting, not for squandering and compromising.

There should be a lesson in forgiveness.

The second part of “Le Comte de Monte-Cristo” almost tells the story of Dantes, who escaped from prison and was reborn after finding treasure, entering the upper class of Paris under the pseudonym of Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, and embarking on the road of premeditation and execution of revenge.

After the despair, the purgatory and the phoenix’s rise in prison, Dontice seemed to have no power, no power. Every move of the newly born Count of Monte Cristo was anticipated, and one by one his enemies, once so full of evil, were drawn into the net he had cast.

I’m not a big fan of this part, because I’m not a big fan of getting an equal for an equal.

Sometimes it is said that an eye for an eye is not too late for revenge. Sometimes they say, forgive and forgive.

Sometimes said, people do not offend me I do not commit, if people offend me I will commit.

Sometimes said, take a step back. Since when are two wrongs avenged?

Sometimes, we are confused by these simple truth, do not know why.

But in retrospect, think about it, to make trouble with others is to make trouble with yourself.

Grudges have to be settled, and enmity has to be avenged. As long as there is a proper measure and sense of proportion, it is OK. Isn’t it necessary to carry on enmity forever?

Remember before watching the “Godfather” generations of godfather Tang, is to keep settling a piece of hatred, but never stop ah! Finally, Tang, there will always be a day of old, but still can not get rid of revenge and being avenged by the hatred sea, lonely and unwilling to close his eyes.

Of course, I knew that the Count of Monte Cristo had a good ending, when Le Comte de Monte-Cristo finally had an Epiphany and ended his lifelong quest for revenge.

I think we all, deep down, want to be at peace, to be respected, to spend our weekends in the sun, reading and drinking tea. However, this is also a luxury, depending on whether you are willing to take this opportunity for yourself.

Don’t try to fight everything all the time, people eventually have to learn to forgive, forgive not others, but themselves.
