Open the first page of this book, and stare for a long time at the portrait of the author, the great French critical realist writer of the 19th century, who has a pair of sharp eyes into the world, he seems to tell the author that a thinking man never lacks admirers! I saw a proud loner in his eyes, which saw all the beauty and ugliness of the world.
Balzac once said in his book: no matter what the situation is, women always suffer more than men, and the degree of pain is also deeper. A man has his energy to work with: he moves, he runs, he scrambles, he thinks, he looks at the future, he finds comfort.
But the woman is still, unable to be distracted in the face of grief, grief has opened a hole for her, let her drill down to the bottom, measure the depth of the hole, fill it with her wishes and tears. Feeling love, suffering, sacrifice, is always a part of a woman’s life.
From these words, we can feel that Balzac commented with an objective and fair attitude that God’s fate arrangement for men and women is extremely unfair in this world.
Since ancient times, women have carried too much blood and tears. No matter when and where, responsibility and obligation kidnap women all the time. Even if they are treated unfairly in marriage, most women will swallow their blood and tears to save their family.
Balzac created the image of a suffering woman in the book, that is, the mother of Eugenie. This is a tragic figure, but her body contains the microcosm of millions of women in the world. For the sake of the family, for the sake of the children, swallow the pride and carry the burden forward!
In the novel Eugénie Grandet, the one that hurt me the most was Eugenie’s mother who married the wrong man in her life. Originally, her family was very good, that is to say, her family was very rich, she could have met a better man by virtue of her family superiority, but when she was a girl, she was simply impressed by Grandet’s “loyalty”.
Eventually she married the scheming and money-hungry old hoopbarrel Grandet.
The most sad thing for a woman is to marry a stingy man who doesn’t want to spend a penny for herself. Grandet was rich, but he was too cheap to buy his wife a decent dress, and most of all, he squeezed his wife’s pocket money.
Go ahead! Will she be happy married to such a selfish man?
The last words Eugenie’s mother said on her deathbed were; There is nothing but suffering and death.
She lived a humble life, not daring to go against her husband’s wishes, and not willing to go against the man she wanted to cling to all her life. So she lived a miserable life!
Balzac introduced Madame Grandet in the novel as if she were born to endure the oppression of a tyrant, as if she were so thin, sallow and clumsy. Big bones, big nose, big forehead, big eyes, at first glance like neither water nor tasteless dried fruit.
This woman’s character is as good as it gets. A descendant of the Laberdriere family.
The author just a few words, a person’s sad life on the page!
Madame Grandet, who had a rich husband whom all outsiders admired, did not realize that her life was worse than that of the poor, for she was in his eyes a pawn in his inheritance, a servant in his work, a high housekeeper, who did not have to pay a single franc for cheap Labour.
Such a marriage, such a husband, is indeed a woman’s grave!
Eugenie is one of Balzac’s favorite characters in this work. She is pure and kind, and can do everything in love, including fighting her miser father.
But it stuck with me for a long time. Not for Eugenie!
Euyeni’s first love Shire affected her every nerve, when the shire encountered major changes in life, Euyeni took out all his gold to help lover, dedicated the most beautiful youth. But in return is the first love betrayal.
Breaking up is not terrible, terrible is to spend your life in a man who does not deserve you to pay cheating and womanizing feelings, is not stupid? More angry is, Euyeni in that shire will marry another woman, Euyeni also completely sent himself into the grave of marriage, resulting in their own life to the dark curtain.
Balzac described it this way in his novel: sadness drilled a hole for her and let her into it. Until the end of the hole, she always filled the abyss of pain with hope and tears.
Who’s going to pay for her grief?
Eugenie’s ending was not a happy one, “lacking sunshine, lacking warmth, always dead and full of desolation, that is the description of her life.
She was born in the world but does not belong to the world, she is an angel’s wife and mother, but has no husband, no family, no offspring.
As women, we never want to cling to anyone, we choose to pursue freedom and love, but we are not blind, after going through so many blows and hardships in life, we do not give in to pressure, but to travel light, after all, there are other fish in the sea, just haven’t found.
Old hoop Bucket Grandet: Life is merciless and full of pain. The longer the desire, the deeper the obsession.
Grandet’s obsession with money was unique in the world. He valued money more than his own life. In the book, it is described that after Madame Grantai’s death, according to the law, Grantai’s daughter will divide the property with her father. The miser, who is worried all day long, prays for his daughter to give up the property. If the property is divided, it will be equal to killing him!
Simple daughters don’t care about money. Grandet inherited all his wife’s money as he wished!
Poor, detestable Grandet.
Balzac described M. Grandet in this way: the tip of his nose was enlarged, and on the top of it was an ugly, disagreeable sarcoma, which was thought to contain all mischief and cunning.
Who was Grandet’s clever trick? Calculated their own, dying did not forget to tell his daughter: take good care of everything, after there, give me the account!
Money enslaved his soul.
He cheated his daughter and ruined her happiness. Not to mention his efforts to prevent Eugenie’s short-lived love, Eugenie’s childhood under his control was devoid of color. There is only silence and fear all day long.
Eugenie inherited her father’s petty and narrow character. Even though she was rich, her life was still so dull, living in the old house, harsh life, even though she did a lot of good deeds, she was worthy of those who were helped by her, but sorry to herself.
Grandet’s narrowness was successfully replicated by Eugenie. When her daughter was betrayed by her feelings, she did not analyze and treat her life and marriage rationally, but got married hastily. It is conceivable that her marriage failed.
Euyeni did not welcome a new life after her husband’s death, but buried her happiness forever with Shire’s betrayal to her.
So Grandet’s machinations ended with his own dearest! His life was deplorable.
When I read the first half of the novel, I enjoyed the pure and pure love between Eugenie and Char. They loved each other, depended on each other and appreciated each other. However, I was really angry after reading the second half of the novel. Shire of change, shire cunning and insidious are made to vomit!
The book describes Eugenie in love in this way: her happiness is like the iron nails on the wall, no matter how much you accumulate, holding in the hand, always can not cover up the palm.
When are people happiest? Is the heart to belong to, each other’s heart also belongs to you, each other’s heart cherish the most happy.
But fate brought Eugenie’s happy soul to hell. And she promised to love his shire in a few years later but only sent her a letter of refusal. A letter full of false tricks.
It told her that she was not worthy of his high life and that he was going to marry a bride who, ironically, was not her.
Shire of brazen, the shire of snobbery, the shire of double-dealing, all let people revile! He’s a fighter among philandering men.
As I write this, I am glad at this moment that Eugenie has been dumped by the scum Shire. If they had married and had children, the consequences would have been terrible. Because cheating on a philandering man is horrible if it’s shameless.
So what’s the big deal about betrayal in one’s life? Being betrayed can pretend to be indifferent to the appearance of crying in the mirror, tell yourself that more suitable for their own has not appeared, some of their own will be more happy!
And I conclude with the passage in the book that strikes me the most: the noble mind has to yield to the calculations of earthly interests. Money to this otherworldly life painted indifferent luster, so that the amorous woman is full of doubts about feelings.
